at that corner, dear babe,
there are cats playing and
climbing on trees, they don’t talk,
there’s no naive  white night-blooming
cereus*, i drink the pressed
carrot juice and smoke cigarettes
at the coffee shop we had
sat, the coffee shop I sat

alone, the rain outside is
not enough to wet, the cats
quietly stay silent in
the middle of four standing
walls, dear babe, not one
Orchid Cactus blooms by me
and the glass of pressed carrot,
the cold chair, the cats do not
talk, they climb trees and play with
the leaves.

is Quỳnh,  which is also known as Orchid Cactus.
It is a tropical flower which has been known
as the “Queen of the Night.” Quỳnh is also
a name for girls.

ở góc đó em ơi
những con mèo đang nghịch
và leo trèo trên cây
chúng không trò chuyện, không
có một bông Quỳnh trắng
ngây thơ nào hết anh
uống nước cà rốt ép
và hút thuốc lá ở
cái quán cafe chúng
mình đã ngồi quán ca-
fe mình anh ngồi cơn

mưa ngoài trời không đủ
ướt những con mèo lặng
lẽ im lìm giữa bốn
bề tường dựng em ơi
không một bông Quỳnh nào
nở bên anh và ly
nước cà rốt ép những
chiếc ghế lạnh những con
mèo không trò chuyện chúng
leo cây và nghịch những
chiếc lá khô.
